About This Course

The Leadership: Models, Methods and Mission is a masters level unit that can be taken as part of an MA in Mission at Cliff College or can be studied on its own either with or without credit. The course addresses a range of issues associated with church leadership, especially in respect of missional and pioneering practice. It explores current trends in the theology and practice of church leadership as they relate to ministerial development, emotional health, pressure, change, and leadership transitions. It facilitates conversation between the theology of leadership and secular models of leadership and engages in comprehensive reflection on the nature of missional leadership.

This is a 30 credit unit.

This unit is part of the Leadership, Mission, and Ministry pathway.

The taught week for this unit is 21st - 25th September 2020.


Students wishing to take the course for credit will need to apply to Cliff College. The standard entry requirement is to have an undergraduate degree in a humanities discipline (2:ii or higher). However, the College also welcomes applicants via its non-standard entry route. Further details are available from the College.

If you are not taking the course for credit then no prior qualifications are needed.

The course does not require students to have prior expertise in biblical studies, theology or leadership studies. However, familiarity with these disciplines and / or a willingness to engage at masters level is required.

Dr Justin Thacker

Justin's first career was as a medical doctor, training in paediatrics. He worked in Kenya as a paediatrician before becoming a healthcare manager and embarking on theological studies. He was formerly the Head of International Operations for the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, Head of Theology for the Evangelical Alliance and Executive Director of the World Evangelical Alliance Theological Commission. His most recent book is Global Poverty: A Theological Guide (SCM Press, 2017). .
